Rosa by Jesús Orellana
ROSA from Jesús Orellana on Vimeo.
One artist, one year, no budget. How is this even possible?
Here's an interview with Jesús on 'Short of the Week' by Andrew S Allen that gives a bit of background.
Amsterdam Harbour
I normally don't like bright bold signage but this (obviously!) caught my eye on a boat ride around Amsterdam Harbour, it just seemed so right for the location. But the most eye catching thing is Nemo the Science Centre, the unusual shape is a stylized boat and also echoes the shape and size of the road tunnel that goes underneath it. Although it can't be seen from this side there is a large roof terrace with several tiers and a huge water feature for children to play in.

Ed - 3d Modelling
One I rescued from my old blog, I still can't believe this - how on earth can it be computer generated!! I never get tired of watching it and I am eternally jealous that I still can't make anything other than a primitive shape in any 3d modelling program.
Chris Jones is the genius responsible for this and it should be compulsory to read his blog and see more of his work.

Urban Alarms, Vents & Fittings
Walking around an older part of town surprises you with a wide variety of old alarms, vents & assorted street furniture. Most of them don't even have an immediately obvious purpose anymore but I'm so glad they haven't been ripped out and discarded. Some have obvious damage caused by time and weather but some look as though an attempt has been made to force them open, or have graffiti added to them. All those stories lost....

Weathered Scraps of Fabric
A piece of fabric tangled up in barbed wire it's been there for years and just appears to be a grimy scrap of fabric but when you zoom in its amazing how the yellow and green retains its vibrancy it probably wasn't a cheap item to have withstood so much weather without fading. Just the result of high wind picking up some fly tipping but I'd still love to know its story....

Urban Advertising - Valkenburg
These signs were painted onto walls in Valkenburg aan de Geul, in Limburg Southern Holland. The first was quite hard to make out but zooming in exposed layers of paint, each of the six sections has several different advertisements visible. I hope that something is being done to preserve them. The second, Maison Chic, appears to be newly painted, presumably painting over the original.

Wandering around Manchester Piccadilly
It's amazing what you see during a stroll around the back streets; these are a few things that captured my imagination near Piccadilly Rail Station in Manchester.

Vienna Wine Cellar - Electrical Fittings
I love street furniture and old fittings & fixtures, these were in a wine cellar on the outskirts of Vienna. The cellars were huge and although they use new casks they have kept all the old fittings and a large selection of the old casks. The modern area was interesting but the old cellars were amazing. Surprisingly they didn't smell musty but there were a few cobwebs to add to the atmosphere.
Vienna Wine Cellar
Some of the old casks showing how candles were used before the cellar had electricity. Surprisingly some of the casks date from as recently as the 1960s.

Lista (The List) - Paweł Łyczkowski
A seemingly simple animation that is a lot more detailed than it first appears. Keeping the colour palette low key adds to the overall look and feel far more than a heavy colour scheme and obvious lighting would; allowing the viewer to focus on the story.
